Thank you, Dan, as always.
Very well chosen pictures to illustrate this pivotal moment for the Christian Church.
Pivotal indeed. Before, the disciples cowered. After, they strode forth.
As I sit here in my ice cold vehicle, eating breakfast, number 3 fills me with a sense of warmth thanks to the chosen colors used.
The last one, can you imagine seeing that in your congregation? Wow, talk about confirmation. I wonder though if someone was unsaved in attendance- would they not have a flame over their head? Would th3y feel like the odd man out? I would Imaging though if that were so, they would quickly determine that there really is something to this “christian thing” after all. I wonder what kinds of displays of power the saints in the end times Will display? I know that the word of christ alone will consume the enemies- a yone witnessing that will likely be convinced unless they are too far gone.
I was preparing the post illustrating Peter's visit to the Gentile centurion Cornelius, with the family and friends present, and I had the same thought.
I wonder what kinds of displays of power the saints in the end times Will display?
Excellent question, Bob. We know what the two Witness will be capable of (Yikes!), but you raise an issue I had not considered. I trust we'll be gone and only hear about it through the grapevine.
Pro-tip, Bob: turn on the car's heater. They've been standard equipment since the '60s.
Lol, I sit for a couple hours having lunch and enjoying the view- it’s my queit time. Only run the heater for like 5 jingles at a time, but car cools off fairly quickly after shutting it off for the next 1/2 hour or so.
I saw a movie that featured John haggie in it, and although I disagree with some of what he preaches, the movie kinda hi Ted at what the end times “ old be like”, and it featured the two witnesses and the power they had, and I thought wow- that’s gonna turn some heads. The movie, although straying from the Bible at times, (ie haggee thinks kids get ruptured first, then later adults do), it was kinda eerie hearing the trumpets blast, a sound heard al. Around the world- the sound was eerie. It was a 3 part series movie, and pretty interesting really to see what life could be like during that time.
Ehat struck me was how the “world media” covered up the miracles and happenings like the kids disappearing, and how convincingly they did so. The public ate up the lies.
Wish I could remeber the name of the movie, but I’ve searched for it a couple times and can’t find it. It featured haggee and other preachers doung commentary as though they were in the end times and watching events unfold- the it would break and go to the main characters and how their lives changed during the end times.
The CNN Gospel, LOL.
Morning Dan
.
Hosanna in the Highest!
Palm Sunday still echoing!
Acts, Chapter 2, is quite long. But the female sex is mentioned only once, and then peripherally. However, your representations almost without exception emphasize the role of woman as a central theme. This, I must take it, is explained by the explosion of Marianism that was brought to Europe by Crusaders; it was a subject that dominated for centuries and was a dominant theme during the Rennaissance. It reached its paramount achievement with the Pieta of Michelangelo. However, most of the paintings, above, are little more than poster art.
Several responses:
1. Among the commenters, I actively discourage commentary which is centered on denominational divisiveness.
2. In presenting important portions of the Bible—and surely the coming of the Holy Spirit qualifies—I am limited by the artworks which are readily available.
3. Editorially, the threads I present consist of my good-faith attempts to fulfill my Holy Spirit-inspired commission of illustrating Scripture.
You say: “
Greetings Dan, and happy ‘new week’ to all.
What a topic! Can we even imagine the generosity of God? That He would give us such a ‘Helper’ indeed.
Psalm 116:12-13
What shall I return to the Lord
for all his goodness to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the Lord.
Thank You Dan!
Isolated OT occurrences of the Holy Spirit temporarily indwelling folks could not begin to suggest what plans the Spirit had for us. And now that we enjoy His presence, it seems a deposit on and a mere glimpse of the full fellowship with Him we shall enjoy eternally.
physically impossible in our mortal finite minds
I mean this in a respectful, admiring way, but for our blessing God does like to show off.
I will take that with everlasting joy
He would be quite the milquetoast God indeed if He couldn’t and didn’t overawe us.
